SPORTS PROJECTS CONSULTANTS LTD was initially set up to manage the installation of the athletics tracks and flooring for the 2012 London Olympics for MONDO SpA, the world leader in competition running surfaces.
The contract involved the installation of 24 000sqm of athletic track material, 22 000sqm of sprung wooden flooring and 20 containers of sport equipment.
Joe Hoekstra, owner and CEO, credits the success of the project to his previous experience managing other major events for Mondo, including the Atlanta , Sydney and Athens Olympics, and the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006.
Since then SPORTS PROJECTS CONSULTANTS has worked on, amongst others, the 2018 Gold Coast and 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games projects - both of which entailed pioneering interim bases for the athletics tracks - the reinstatement of the Olympic track at the West Ham Soccer Stadium for the 2017 World Championships and the revamping of the Emirates Arena, Glasgow for the 2024 World Indoor Athletics Championships.
In 2018, the company was again involved in a groundbreaking engineering concept - the redevelopment of the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium at White Hart Lane, London.
With challenging designs, logistics and deadlines, these projects all called for engineering expertise, ingenuity and logistics know-how. (To read more about the individual projects, click on CASE STUDIES below.)
Prior to the establishment of Sports Projects Consultants, Joe managed the track installations for the 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics, as well as the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
